Fall Development Conference
We just had our Fall Professional Development Conference in Saratoga, NY. The conference was very well attended and offered a variety of professional development opportunities, discussion of several issues facing the society and the profession, as well as the semi-annual meeting of the Board of Directors. Our Keynote Speaker was Stan Wilczek, Jr., PE who is the author of The Kept Secret and Soma Man. Stan gave a lively address to tell us the story of how he went from practicing engineering to writing fictional novels. For more information, please visit www.stanwilczekjr.com. Award Nominations Open
The NYSSPE Nominating Committee is seeking nominations for our annual awards, which will be presented at the NYSSPE Annual Meeting in June. Nominations are due by February 13, 2009, with the exception of the outstanding achievement award which is due by February 27, 2009.

Building Inspection Engineers Certification
The National Academy of Building Inspection Engineers Certification is available to Professional Engineers by way of a grandfathering provision that allows candidates with at least eight years of experience to submit a four-page application. Successful review and acceptance of the application permits a candidate to receive an exemption from the certification exam. The grandfathering period ends December 31of this year. To be considered for grandfathering a candidate must submit an application postmarked no later than December 31, 2008.
